Born in 1972,Massimo originally studied as a surveyor before starting in shop retailing in 1995. His first position was as a shop assistant in a sport store and he worked his way up to become after 5 years the category manager for outdoor. In May 2003 he switched companies and joined Sportland as Category Manager for Outdoor, bike and ski for the whole chain. His current role includes: evaluating the outdoor’s department performance, buying and testing products, outdoor press relations, sponsoring and outdoor events management and managing Brand partnerships. His outdoor passion started when he was a child living close to the mountains and he now actively canoes, trail runs, canyons and climbs.

Sportland is a chain of 18 Sport Stores in North Italy that sells swimming, running, fitness, gym, bike, ski, soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, martial arts and sportswear products. The first Sportland Store was opened in 1989 in Brescia S.Eufemia. Sales this year were approximatley € 25 million and the chain employs 120 staff.  Outdoor products represent 14% of total turnover but in stores with a complete outdoor offering this rises to 30% . Sportland is a Sport Alliance partner, an international network with more than 250 sport stores in Italy and Europe.
The chain is partner of a number of outdoor events including EOFT 2012, European Outdoor Film Tour, the CATWALK Trail and also own’s Pelle dell’Orso magazine. The company slogan is “Your life partner in sport and  healthy living”. Sportland  is part of a big family group called Italmark. The group has 130 stores: food (Italmark), eletronics (Supermedia), home products (Stilnovo), perfumery (Gocce di Rugiada) and bricolage (Bricocenter).
